Do you find himattractive? None of the other gay guys onset have managed to get more than alittle smile out of him despite their bestefforts.They even doubt that he’s gay atall.”Sage frowned.“Christ, Dianne, I’mnot going to talk about someone I hardlyknow like that.It’s a little unfair, don’tyou think? Besides, given the state ofthat lot out there,” he gestured with hishand, “I’d say not being able to get himin their sights is no reflection on Alex,more on them.They can be a bunch ofrandy pillocks.” He scowled fiercely.Dianne batted him playfully on hisarm.“Come on.Surely you’ve thoughtabout it, getting him into the sack?”He shook his head, not wanting toadmit he had indeed had those thoughtsabout Alex.They generally involved himmoving up and down Alex’s bodyslowly, tasting every inch of him,sucking whatever he had beneath thechinos Alex favoured and then finallyplunging himself inside the man as hecried out Sage’s name in sheer ecstasy.“Well, I’m not one of the other guys,”he lied.“He seems to want his privacy,and to be honest, I can see why if you’reall talking about him behind his back.”He stood up and heard a noise at thedoor.He turned to see Alex standingthere, a strange expression on his face.“Thank you, Sage,” Alex said quietly.“I appreciate you fighting in my cornerfor me.”Dianne laughed softly.“Honey, it’sjust office gossip, nothing more.This isshow business.You get used to peopletalking about you.Even Sage knowsthat’s true.You’ve been talked about inthe past, haven’t you?” She raised hereyebrows suggestively.“But it’s all ingood fun, I promise.”She stood up and walked past him outof the office.Sage looked at Alex, whose face waspaler than normal.“You need to ignoretheir gossip.They’re bloody vicarious.Don’t let it worry you.”Sage’s heart ached at the lost look onAlex’s face.He’d never seen anyonelook so—abandoned.He moved over tohim instinctively, placing a comfortinghand on his shoulder.Alex hissed inpain, jerking away.“Please don’t touchme.” His voice was low.Sage stepped back in confusion.He’donly just touched Alex lightly, nothing towarrant such a reaction.“I’m sorry.Ididn’t mean to hurt you.”Alex turned away to stare out of thewindow.“I have a slight injury to myshoulder.It wasn’t your fault.I just don’tlike being touched.”Sage sighed.“I seem to have a habitof upsetting you.I promise you it’s notintentional.”Alex turned back, looking at him withthose incredible eyes.Sage’s chesttightened.Where he’d thought he mightsee disdain he saw something elseentirely.Affection.Alex shook his head.“Sage, you’regreat.It’s me that’s the problem.I’m alittle complicated, I’m afraid.Somewould say peculiar.” He smiled.Sage grinned back.“You look fine tome,” he murmured.“You look evenbetter when you smile.You should do itmore often.”“I’m trying, I’m really trying.” Alex’svoice sounded tired suddenly and thecamaraderie that Sage had seen just afew moments ago dissipated.But a slightgrin remained on Alex’s face.“I promiseyou I’m not into women though.That’snot one of my vices.”Sage thought Alex’s voice soundedrather droll, as if there was a hiddenmessage in there.“Glad to hear it,” Sage murmured.“That’d be a real waste for men like meeverywhere.”Even as he said it, he marvelled atthe fact that he was actually managing toflirt with this very unusual man.Alex’squiet chuckle at his words made thehairs on Sage’s arms stand up and hiserection grow.Christ, what this man did to him.Hehadn’t had a boner like this in a while.Sage tried to ease the growingturmoil in his groin by walking over tothe window and gazing down into thestreet.Alex moved up behind him,touching his arm gently.A charge like aslow flick of fire licked against the skinunder Sage’s shirt.Alex spoke softly.“The reason Icame in here was to tell you Luke waslooking for you.He and Janine had ascript change they wanted to run by you.They’re in the staff room
